Galgo: why this breed is among the most exploited
Galgo, also known as Spanish Greyhounds, are elegant, fast, and kind-hearted dogs. For centuries, in Spain, they have been primarily used for hare hunting races, but behind their beauty lies a story often ignored.
Thousands of these dogs suffer needlessly, victims of a tradition that considers them "disposable." It is estimated that 50,000 to 100,000 Galgo are killed, often brutally, each year by their hunters, also known as galgueros. In recent decades, associations in Spain and abroad have begun to raise awareness about Galgo adoption, bringing forth a new perspective: they are not "discarded hunting dogs," but intelligent and affectionate animals that deserve a family.
